I just went through each post and I'm cracking up!

So here I go again.

Facebook has undoubtedly taken over my online life. I've connected with a lot of people over the past year and some months. I love and hate it at the same time. Love it because its easy to find people and catch up; Hate it because its a HUGE time waster. The "e-World" is going to be an interesting place once my girls are old enough to be using the Internet on a regular basis; Which is getting to be sooner than later.

Since the birth of Webkinz in our home, Computer time and Internet time is in high demand. Thankfully as a parent I can use this as a reward. We've decided that they can earn their computer and gaming time through chores. If they finish their chores throughout the week they get an hour of computer time on the weekends. If they do extra chores they can earn 10-20 more minutes depending on the extra thing they do. They can use their time all at once or they can spread it across the weekend. But they can't carry it over to the next week, unless something else comes up for that particular weekend; Like going out of town, or being away from the house.

Fortunately with Webkinz, I don't have to worry as much about the random stranger chatting with my girls. They lock it down pretty good so that in the chat rooms you can only say things from a select number of phrases and responses. I know that as they start creeping towards their teenage years, they're going to want to be involved in some sort of Social Networking Site.. (I'm going to assume in 3 years Facebook is going to be considered something that old people use - and the kids are going to have somewhere else to go.)

Obviously I can't shield my kids from the Internet entirely. Its going to be a part of their lives whether I like it or not. We continue to push the importance of safety - and that the same rules apply online as they do in real life. Fortunately for us, our school also teaches Internet safety in their computer class.

So, yeah its been a while.

I'm slowly going to try to get back into the swing of things. Its been so long since I've put anything out here, I've lost my touch! ;) Stay tuned, I am sure good things are bound to come. And I'll apologize in advance for the boringness of the blog.. once I get back into the swing of things, I'm hoping it will be as entertaining as ever.. ;)

So, my dog has allergies. He's allergic to ragweed in the fall of all things to be allergic to. I guess it's pretty common, but still I feel so bad for the guy.. He's itchy, scratcy, cranky and downright bitchy. I've been feeding him Steroids for about a week now, and it seems to be getting a little better, but he's still biting a lot of his hair out and scratching like crazy. The poor thing. I've got some allergy tabs on order.. hopefully they will be here tomorrow. I have so forgotten how good this CD is. I've added it to my play-list.. I can't believe I forgot about it!

I do, however, think that I've strained my voice rocking out to Zombie on the way into work this morning. I was one of the freaks singing along to the radio while driving during rush hour this morning.

I also brought in my Nine Inch Nails CD (Pretty Hate Machine). Its actually not MINE, my cousin let me borrow it about 12 years ago.. I forgot to give it back to him. I haven't put it in yet, but I'm expecting to have that same "Oh yeah, this is a great CD!" reaction as well.

What are some albums that you've forgotten about, or haven't listened to for years, that you were at one time REALLY into?

Blog thoughts

So I've come to the conclusion that if I don't update this blog every day, I'll never keep up with this blog.
So, that being said, I'm thinking of doing themes for the day ...

For example:

Monday: weekend Recap day
Tuesday: Silly Kids
Wednesday: Simple minds
Thursday: ???
Friday: ???

And then I'll give it a rest on the weekends.

However I'm not sure what to write about, any ideas?

Suppose I should update

What me, procrastinate? Never.

I've got finals this week. I'll be so happy when I'm done with these classes. Tomorrow is my Business Statistics course, and then on Thursday I have a final in Music Appreciation. I like the Music Appreciation so much more than Statistics, but I'm looking forward to the Statistic final over the Music final. Less writing in the Stats Class. Regardless, after this week I'm done for a while. I've decided that I'm taking Winter quarter off. I'm away from home too much as it is, and this way I can at least spend my evenings with the husband and the kids. (**maybe even update my blog once in a while..**)

Tonight we have Daisy Scouts and Brownie Scouts. I'm a troop leader again this year for the Daisy Scouts, but really, its going better than last year already. I think going through this last year gave me an idea on what to do or not to do this year. Whenever he seems to find himself in an ounce of trouble.

When we bought the movie, we also got a small stuffed George holding onto a bucket of popcorn or Hey! Corn! as Zoe likes to call it. The first thing she did was pull the popcorn out of his arms. However, when she is watching the movie, George must have his Hey! Corn! with him. She'll hold her arm out and say "Pause this!" and run back to her bedroom to get the Hey! Corn! out of her stash spot, then she'll enjoy the movie with George while preteneding to eat the Hey! Corn! out of the bucket.

Two years, seven months, and two days. Finally, we are cooling off. The heat has been insane for the last few weeks.
We have been trying to be creative with keeping cool, but its pretty much resorted to us staying inside with the air conditioning. We tried to play outside with the kids over the weekend. We set up the sprinkler in the front yard. They had a good time. But we only lasted about a half an hour. We just couldn't seem to keep cool.

To top it off, all the going in and out of the air conditioning has just made me sick. I've been suffering for 4 weeks now. I am tired of being sick. The doc gave me some steroidal nasal spray when I finally broke down and went to see him. Yesterday.

I'm feeling better today, but the side effects of the drug are killing me now. I've got jitters, real bad. But I do feel as though I have super strength. That part is cool. But the best part.. I can breath. Breathing is good.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

We're heading to a friend's wedding this weekend. I am really looking forward to it. It will be the first wedding in about 3 years where I haven't been either pregnant, or we've had the whole crew with us. Don't get me wrong. Kids at weddings can be fun and ours are pretty well behaved. But its just going to be nice to actually have adult conversation throughout the night without someone pulling on my leg telling me that they are bored or having to have the constant fear that some drunk at the bar decides that tonight would be a great night for my 6 year old to learn how to drink a beer! (It IS Wisconsin after all..)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

So, what are your plans for the first weekend in August? I used to be so good at keeping up with my blog and somewhat amusing my readers. Ah, but alas.. summer is here.. Makes a big difference on what we actually have time for. In fact I wouldn't be putting anything on this blog tonight, if I wasn't a procrastinator faced with the option of either doing homework or blogging. Obviously I picked the more important choice.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

In June the husband and I took a trip out to the west coast. We flew into Seattle and out of San Diego 10 days later. Granted we spent only a day or so in each city, but the trip was a blast. Pictures from the trip can be found here.

Shortly after returning from our trip, we went to the Warped Tour with the two older kids. It was fun, but so freekin' hot. We did see a lot of great bands though. Joan Jett included in that mix as well. The girls had fun. Harmony got to meet a pro-skater who only had one leg. Which was awesome, since she is the biggest skateboarding fan ever. Pictures from that can be found here.

We then headed out for a week of camping around the 4th of July. We had a great time camping in the National forest. The kids surprisingly did amazing. No one freaked out about the outhouse toilets, which was a HUGE plus. We never once needed to break out the Coleman porta-potty. Pictures from this can be found here.

After our week in the woods, I had to go to Seattle for some training for work. I had a good time, however being away from the kids proved to be more difficult than I anticipated. We all survived though. Which is first and foremost the most important thing. I spent the week in Bellevue, and getting lost trying to find my way through Seattle. Not because its difficult, just because I'm not that bright when it comes to directions. I went out to dinner with my brother-in-law and my niece and then another night with my brother-in-law and his wife. I also went out on the town with my niece. I kept telling people that she was my age, but the husband so diligently pointed out that she is NOT my age.. Just because we are both in our 20's .. does not mean that she is my age.. so whatever.. But we had a blast and hit it off real well. I had not met her until our recent west coast trip, but it was like we had known each other all of our lives. Pictures from my Seattle/WA/Bellevue trip can be found here.

So, although its been an exciting summer, it hasn't been an exciting summer to blog about. It's life. It's what happens.

Take care, I'll try to put something else on this blog before school starts in the fall. :)

Patron..

It's going to be hard to go back to cuervo after this May 5th.

Movie

A History of Violence.

Within the first 20 minutes I was ready to tell the husband to turn it off and put something else in.. and then the plot thickened.

I totally recommend this movie... BRAINS...

<s>I Love</s> The husband loves Zombie movies. We have been married for 8 years and he so desperately tries to get me to go to a movie theater to watch whatever new Zombie movie comes out. I DID not see 28 Days Later in the theater (He went by himself) I did NOT see Dawn of the Dead (remake) in the theater. (I made him go with our neighbors. I finally broke down and saw Land of the Dead in the theater.. Since it turned out the previously mentioned moves were awesome..;) and Land of the Dead sucked. Ok, well the story was ok.. but the way the movie was made was more than your average Zombie flick Cheese. The interesting part was that I could pick out of the 12 other people in the theater, who would be the first to be bitten by a Zombie if an attach did occur. I was prepared.
I definitely like the updated Zombie though.. where they are more violent and they are capable of RUNNING. Geesh.. Can you imagine an undead creature.. trying to eat your brain, not only coming after you, but coming after you with such force that you don't have a moment to figure out a plan?

The Classics are still scary as well. "They're coming to get you, Barbara!" We actually had this on our answering machine at one point in time. I don't know why. George Romero did a wonderful job creating these undead creatures. The remake of Night of the Living Dead was done well, even if there were survivors in the end. But the survivors played into the next <s>two</s> three movies that were created. Dawn of the dead, Day of the Dead and most recently Land of the Dead. ( I said the Movie sucked.. not the story..) The first movie shows that they are mindless creatures wandering around looking to eat anyone who is still alive. In Dawn of the Dead, it shows that they are starting to remember some things of their "living" lives, shopping at the mall for instance. In Day of the Dead, they story is showing that the Zombies are starting to think independently, and appear to express some form of emotional attachment. In Land of the Dead, it is clear that the Zombies are evolving. They continue on with "normal" things in life. They form alliances with other Zombies, and they show an ability to survive.

And then of course there are the spoofs. Return of the Living Dead - 1 through 5000.. and Dead Alive, Red Neck Zombies, and Shaun of the Dead. (And of course a half million more.. but I haven't seen ALL of them.. yet) I actually went to see Shaun of the Dead in the theater. I was very proud of myself. These movies are great and always good for a good laugh.

Last but not least are the new ones coming out. Slither - the Husband, of course, wants to go see this. He's trying to convince me that it would be a wonderful Friday night date thing. I don't know. Something about seeing a zombie movie in a theater scares the bejeebees out of me! I think that if I watch it at home .. at least I know I can get up and walk out of the room. But we'll see. It will take some major convincing. And then there is Silent Hill. There is no way. The Playstation game gave me the creeps.. I had to turn it off and walk away because it was scaring me, and from what I've seen of the trailer.. the movie is right along the story line of the game. My hair stands on end when the commercial for the movie comes on. I guess that's the point though.. huh?

Now before I conclude this, I do want to offer some advice. IF by chance our world as we know it was ever taken over by flesh eating Zombie creatures.. remember to aim for the head. Do NOT try to run across a field to see if that car over there has gas.. there will ALWAYS be a Zombie in the back seat. Always. There is no sense in quarantining them hoping to find a cure, this can only be bad. Oh and lastly.. You WILL die, just do your best to prolong your life.

Here are some picture of the Husband and I on Halloween a couple of years ago. We took second place. We were beat out by a group of men dressed as women. Go figure. Our plan is to get a group of like 10 people on some Halloween ( or heck just any night of the week) and dress as a mob of Zombies. Life keeps speeding by me, and it seems like one day drags right into the next.

My birthday was last week. I turned 29. Not sure how I feel about that one yet.. But time will tell.. if it gives me a moment to feel 29 before 30 strikes. Even my birthday went by fast. The kids made me a pudding pie and I didn't even get to eat any of it before it turned soggy in the fridge. I love that they did this for me though.. I just wish I would have had the time to enjoy it.

I normally take my birthday off of work. Its my own personal holiday. I've done this for the last 10 years. This year.. I could not. Meetings, work, crap needed to be taken care of. Once I got home, the rush didn't end. I had 15 minutes to eat something and get back out the door to my Daisy Scout meeting (I'm a troop leader for my daughter's troop..) By the time I got home I was so beat. Birthday bedtime was all I had time for.

Although it sounds like I am complaining.. I am really not. I love my family, I love my life.. I just wish it would slow down .. just a bit.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Yesterday, we were blessed with a snowday! Although.. it was too cold.. and too windy to really enjoy it until later in the day. We measured 22 inches in our backyard. 22 freekin' inches! I don't think we've had that much snow since the great Halloween blizzard of.. 90-something..

During:

After:

Ps.. How difficult can it be?

The terrible TWOS have struck the house!! It has been too long since I had gone through this.. and the first two were so close in age that there wasn't time to recover from the first turning two for the second one to turn two.. so this is now new to me.

I forgot about how difficult (yet truely exciting) this age can be. Zoe is learning the words no, corner, and nap. Today these words are working.. tomorrow could be another story. I love my Zo-Bot so much, but I now understand why some species eat their young.

We went out to dinner last night. This was a treat. While Victoria and Harmony waited patiently for their food to arrive, Zoe proceeded to stand in her high chair, scream about the crayons (why the waitress didn't bring us more than one cup of crayons is beyond me..) kick off her boots, and scream for attention. Once the food arrived, she proceeded to take all the fries off of her dad's plate and put them in a pile in front of her. I don't know what the point was, but she didn't eat any of them. Finally I had to take her outside. She refused to put her boots back on, and wanted nothing to do with her coat. So I scooped it all up and brought her outside. I am sure that the shrieks of anger could have started an avalanch in our little town if it were possible.

Tonight we're going to see Curious George and then going to Pizza Hut. I was a team captain for my company's team, and although we didn't meet our goal.. we did come close.

****

Onto the Mall.. Since the beginning, the Mall of America has had a Knott's Camp Snoopy amusement park inside. Well.. Snoopy is no more.
This dog dish
has sat at the entry way into the amusement park throughout it's history. It's now been replaced with the words "The Park! at the Mall of America" (I didn't snap a picture, because I was told that people take pictures of some of the dumbest things.. ) We were assured by the Shop owners in "The Park" that bigger better brighter things are planned for the amusement park.. What an experience. But, I must say it did go better than previous years!

I usually give up after about a half an hour. The constant falling will do that to a person. But this time I was actually able to stay up on the board for more than 2 seconds. I was able to get my feet in and out of the bindings. This time, I had fun!

Ok, so I still only lasted an hour, but it was a much better hour than I had in previous attempts.

I left the hill with sore feet, tired body, drenched in sweat, and both knees with a nice big bruise on them.

So, I get MLK day off of work. Everyone else either has to go to work or school.. I think I'm going to take some time to myself and practice my skills a little bit! :)

After 6 years

We made our first trip to the ER for an actual injury with one of the kids.

Our little Zo-Bot was climbing on her kitchen chair and she was trying to get down. We rushed over to the nearest hospital and the poor babe had to get SEVEN stitches in her chin... There was nothing I could do but hold her little hand that was strapped down to the bed. She gave the doc the meanest set of daggers from her eyes and shouted NO! NO! NO! NO! The whole time.

But now we're home. I am positive it will be at least a year before we can even think about visiting them. I am sad that we are losing them as neighbors, but I am so happy that they get to follow their dreams of returning to their "home".
We spent our New Years with our friends. We are going to miss them tremendously. I am glad that we were able to have a last hurrah before they leave town.

Today is a pretty mellow day. The husband and I cut it off pretty early last night, although we didn't make it home until about 3:30 in the morning. I'd much rather be tired.. than tired and hung over.

I think we'll end up sledding with the kids later this afternoon. Our oldest got a snowboard for Christmas and we spent a couple of hours showing her how to ride it yesterday. When she got the hang of it. (Which took one run!) We heard from the bottom of the hill, "THAT WAS SO AWESOME! I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW AWESOME THAT WAS!! WOO HOO" So, I'm thinking snowboarding may become her "thing".

Plugging another blog

The husband and I are making an attempt at home beer brewing. Ok, so not necessarily the dark mornings and the darker nights.. But the air. I love it!

Thanksgiving is the start of it all and it literally warms my heart to know that Christmas is right around the corner.

We spent Thanksgiving at home. I cooked a turkey for my parents, my brother and his family, and my mother-in-law. I think we had one of the best family get-togethers that we've had at our house in a long time. Playing Uno until 11:00 and the 5 bottles of wine we went through probably helped too.

This weekend we're taking the kids to see Santa. The two older ones are excited and nervous to see the big man in the red suit. Especially since the dad and I have been making calls to Santa throughout the year whenever they've been acting up. I am sure that the baby will freak. Don't they always around 2? Ok, so honestly if I knew anything about html, I would have a much cooler looking site, but I don't, so this is what we are all stuck with! :)

I did ad advertising on the bottom and a google search bar.. if you use them.. cool.. if not that's fine too its a free site, not like I'm paying to host it or anything.

Speaking of the google search bar, I honestly think that is a pretty cool feature, but I don't think the bottom of the page is the best place for it.. so where do you think I should put it?

More interesting things to come later.

Cio

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://amusingmyselfdaily.blogspot.com/2005/11/sell-out-with-me-oh-yeah.html' title='Sell Out! It was a serious downpour. So bad you couldn't see but 2 feet in front of you. So, of course, I forgot my umbrella in the van, and didn't even think to bring a jacket.

Great.

It's wet, and my car is parked as far away from the entrance as possible. Well. I have to do it. I can't stay in the lobby all night.

As I'm about to open the door to step out in the rain, I hear a voice. "Don't you have an umbrella?" I turned around and standing there is woman whom I've never met. I responded, "No, I forgot to bring it in.." She smiled and told me that she would walk me to my car. I told her that she didn't have to do that.. But if I could share her umbrella to the end of the walkway I would be grateful for that alone. She said, "No problem! I don't mind walking, I'll walk you to your car." and then smiled.

So we walked across the parking lot and made it to my car. I offered to drive her back to her car, and she said, "No, I'm ok but thanks!"

I have an hour drive home from work on a good night. So I had a long time to reflect on this situation. Forgive me if this gets drawn out.. :)

My first thought was that I don't think that if the circumstances were reversed I would have thought enough about someone else to have offered to walk them to their car in the pouring rain. And If I did think about it, it would have been, "You can share my umbrella until the end of the walkway."

I don't think of myself as a selfish person, but there are definitely times where I do not put others before me.

I also started to think that if we as a nation are like this. The woman that walked me to my car was not from America. If I had to guess I would say India, but I am not positive. She was very polite, and happy to help. I don't think culturally Americans are this considerate to others.

So this little experience has enlightened me to try harder. I am going to open my eyes a little wider, and notice that there are other people around me. I'm going to hold open a door for someone that is more than 2 feet behind me, especially in the pouring rain. There is no reason not too. That extra effort may just make someone else's day. I know that my day was made with this woman's act of kindness.

Kindness is contagious.

The other day...

The other day, my 5-year old was making name tags for everyone in the house. This is a VERY huge deal to her, because she has just recently learned how to spell everyone's name by memory.

Me: "What's with the name tags?"
Her: "That's so you don't call us by the wrong name anymore"

Ok, I admit, I am cursed. I get it from my grandma. Everyone on my mother's side of the family has a hard time remembering anyone else's name in the family. For years my grandmother called me Pat. Pat is my mom's name. I never bothered to correct her, because I knew what she meant. My mom after a few years started to do the same thing. She would call my brother by the names of her brothers'. She would call my dad my brother's name.

I honestly think that I am the worst of them all. I can't get anyone's name right. I can be looking right at someone and say their name and wonder why they are not answering me. This will go on for a few minutes until someone says, "I'm not Aaron."

My girls have obviously picked up on this. My oldest daughter has already called me: Nana, dad, and grandma. She's doomed. So needless to say, she has a good idea there.

Name tags should be a requirement of everyone.

I think I've finally recovered..

I am still in awe that the Packers lost such an important game against the Vikings this past weekend. But really I am over it.

It snowed last night, it's one of the first snows this season for this part of Wisconsin. It's kind of sad that everywhere else in the country is getting dumped on with snow, yet we are sitting here snowless. Regardless, it was nice to see the snow when I walked out of work last night. That is until I started driving. The first mile and a half of my drive was just fine. I had to stop at the gas station to get some milk for the house because the girls absolutely had to have their fruit loops for breakfast in the morning. So I stop at the Amoco down the street. Grab a gallon of milk and a 79 cent bottle of Diet Cherry Coke. Get back in the van, start driving, get on the entrance ramp on the freeway, window slushes up, hit the washer fluid button... Nothing... Damn.. Can't see a fucking thing.. The person driving in front of me is a fucking idiot. She hits her breaks every two seconds and doesn't know what lane she is supposed to be in. I yell to her over my radio in my van with the windows covered with slush at this point "BITCH, Figure it out!" She must have heard me because she switched lanes.. I passed her got off and bought more fluid. WHEW... Ok.. I am now only a half an hour past my "schedule" for getting home on a Monday night. The rest of the drive went fairly uneventful, that is until I was supposed to exit. Whoops was that my exit.. Damn.. Got to go to the next one.. 5 miles to go. I make it home and as I pull into the garage, my super husband calls my cell phone to find out where I am and to see if I was ok. I told him I was home, in the garage, I'd see him in a minute, and that I love him. The point is that as much as I love snow, and bitch that we don't have snow, I do NOT mean for it to snow on one of the three days I work every week. Hopefully Mother Nature will figure this out one day.

Fucking Vikings..
